Welcome to The Živojnović Fellowship

Why do we find supplementary education in treatment of complex cases in vitreoretinal pathology useful and even necessary?

The number of cases in vitreoretinal pathology is naturally limited. As such, they are distributed in relatively large number of vitreoretinal centers. Consequently, the number of complex cases is too small for gaining experience in their treatment. Staying for six months in one of the centers of excellence would offer young surgeons the opportunity to follow the treatment of complex cases. The intention of this education is neither practical work nor improvement of surgical skill, which they should have gained during the previous education, but to gain insight in etiology, preoperative judgement and treatment in complex cases. Postoperative development, possible necessity of the second operation and the final result are important parts of this education as well.
